Welcome to Room 306!!
The Arbolita Academic Learning Center is very unique in that we have a wide array of children filtering through in order to get their specific needs met, ranging from general education students to RSP to all day self-contained kiddos. The classroom is structured and follows a specific routine incorporating many visual supports. We provide modified grade-level curriculum and targeted individual instruction to address the goals of our K-2 self-contained students. In addition, we run 1st and 2nd grade ExCEL groups to target the reading skills of general education/RTI students and a sight word intervention group to help reinforce sight word recognition. Our staff also supports Kindergarten EXCEL and dual immersion EXCEL. Also, students struggling in math/CGI receive support by aides pushing in the general education classrooms or by coming to the learning center for targeted Math/CGI intervention. Students who struggle with language and written expression join in our language/writing intervention group (EET-Expanding Expression Tool) that is co-taught with our SLP. This intervention group focuses on bridging the gap between language and written expression. The learning center teacher and SLP also co-teach a social skills group utilizing the skills streaming curriculum, social stories, and role-playing to target the pragmatic and social needs of our students. The general education students have the opportunity to receive intensive interventions through the RTI process and the self-contained students have the unique opportunity of being ex-posed to the general education population throughout their school day.
